The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

In this 3D animation, Moonbot Studios gives us a heartwarming tale about the people who love books and who are loved by books in return. The story tells of a young man who is transported by a great storm to another world where books fly, and unlike in his own world, there is color and peacefulness.

The animated short film was inspired by Hurricane Katrina, a massive storm that killed over 1000 people in the United States of America. The aftermath of the film saw many Americans coming together to rebuild their communities with art, music, food, film and, as the film implies, with books.

The film also has influences from the Wizard of Oz and Buster Keaton. The scene of the house flying in the centre of the hurricane is reminiscent of the cyclone scene from the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. The main character in this short, Mr Morris Lessmore, is a dead wringer for the early 20th century actor, Buster Keaton, who often appeared in film with a sorrowful, or sometimes vacant, expression.
