Fox McCloud is a character from the Nintendo game series Star Fox. His backstory involves his father meeting a tragic and violent end after being betrayed by his own wingman. The death of the senior McCloud ended the original Star Fox team, and the only survivor of this team urged the young and inexperienced Fox McCloud to rebuild the team. Fox brought on Falco Lombardi and Slippy Toad and began hiring out their services as a crime-busting team of badasses. The team appears to only work for money but they habitually select jobs that mete out justice against villains and other evil scallywags.
Chris Vierra has chosen to sculpt this plucky character out of Chavant, an oil-based clay that softens when warmed and hardens when cooled. In the beginning of the video, you can see Vierra smooshing on blobs of the soft, warm clay to build up the basic shape of Fox McCloud’s head. At other points in the video, we can see him using varies sculptor’s tools to scrape the hardened surface of the clay to create tiny details such as fur. These modelling clays work like clay but can be burnished and polished to have a waxy shine, as seen on Fox’s headgear.
