Mikaël Aguirre turns Video Games into Paintings

Mikaël Aguirre was born in France in 1981. Video games have had such an effect on Aguirre’s life that they have even influenced his art. Mikaël creates his video game paintings in digital imaging software like Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. These programs allow the artist to work at his own pace – there are no concerns about the speed at which paint dries. In computer art software, artists can edit their paintings at any time, deleting or changing large parts of the art work.

Mikaël Aguirre’s paintings of scenes from video games reflect the nature of the game environments and characters, while retaining the artist’s own style. In many of the paintings, the characters have been changed slightly to prevent copyright infringement. The mood of each video game painting depends on the overall mood of the game that he is portraying. His use of perspective and lighting give the paintings a sense of realism, creating believable alternate realities for the game characters to play in, even while those worlds barely resemble our Earth landscape. Aguirre’s fan art offers the world a peek into game land, making magic and mystery seem completely natural. Aguirre has painted scenes from popular video games like Mario Bros, Kirby and The Legend of Zelda.
