In the French language, le même means the same. The French pronounce it to rhyme with the English word them. English speakers have adapted this adopted word and now pronounce it to rhyme with dream.
World Wide WTF?!
Memes are a global phenomenon. They emerged in the early days of the internet as funny emails that people would send each each other – the load speed would depend on the size of the video or image being received and the speed of the person’s modem. And, because people only accessed the internet via desktop computers or laptops connected via a wire to a modem, it meant that memes couldn’t be accessed on-the-go.
As technology has evolved, meme culture has evolved with it.
Nowadays people share memes with each other and memes can be sent and received within seconds of sending. Online social networks like Reddit, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter are full of fodder for meme fans.
Unusual Videos
Most memes are funny moments that have been caught on camera. Some are comic illustrations that inspire feelings of empathy, humour and fellowship in others. Many memes have a bit of cringe-value in them – an enduring feature of memes that keeps viewers coming back to the internet to search for more cringe-and-giggle videos.
The meme compilation videos I’m featuring in this article have an edgy vibe to them – the memes that have been chosen for these videos are unusual; some of them are downright odd, others don’t seem to have anything unusual going on in them and maybe that’s what makes them unusual. The YouTube channel who is doing this great service for the world is called Unusual Videos.
Their selections of memes are worth investing some time and relaxation in. I’ve found that many of these funny clips stay with me and pop up in my memory throughout the day, inspiring me to have a laugh even when I’m not watching the videos; I’m simply remembering them.
Memes of Memory
The word memory in English has the same French root as meme. Memes are simply shared memories, passed from one person to another in the collective consciousness that the internet is allowing humanity to create.
