Impossibility meets Reality in Arianna Piazza’s Surreal Paintings

Arianna Piazza is an Italian artist who not only mixes media, she also creates a mix of subject matter and art styles in her paintings. Working in paint and pencil and with either paper or canvas, Piazza’s imagination gives life to a variety of obscure, bizarre and appealing creatures and characters.

Piazza’s art style is influenced by the study of human anatomy, dreams and strange stories. While the tale told by her paintings is not always immediately apparent to the viewer, the groundwork for a nightmarish story exists, allowing the viewer to create their own explanation for the imagery.

Some of Piazza’s paintings incorporate a sense of surrealism. She creates an alternate reality in which strange creatures live beneath a sky filled with floating, living human organs and animals made up of human anatomy and pure imagination. But unlike many surrealist artists, Piazza’s style is not realistic. Rather, it is as imaginative and creative as the worlds she creates in her paintings.

You can buy both original paintings and prints of Arianna Piazza’s art works through her Etsy store or like her Facebook page to keep up to date with her creations.
