World’s Oldest Gymnastic still Going Strong at 86 Years Old

Johanna Quaas was born Johanna Geiβler in 1925 in Hohenmölsen, Germany, and began practising gymnastics at a young age. During the Second World War, gymnastics was banned by the Allied Control Council, which forced Quaas to pursue another sport, handball. When the ban on gymnastics was lifted in 1947, Johanna Quaas quickly took up her passion again, continuing to practice and train others in gymnastics.

Quaas has won numerous competitions, written a book on gymnastics called, “Gerätturnen” and has trained many gymnastics coaches over the years. In 2012 she was awarded the record oldest gymnast in the world and has received online acclaim for her inspiring Youtube videos which shows the limber and powerful Quaas performing bar and floor routines. The video above was filmed in 2012, showing the then 86-year-old Johanna Quaas performing a parallel bar routine.

You can keep up to date with the world’s oldest gymnast by joining Johanna Quaas’s fanpage on Facebook.
