Yann Black is a tattoo artist who works in an avant-garde style. Avant-garde directly translates from French as “advanced guard”, though there is some dispute about whether this is the true meaning given to the name of this abstract art movement. The term is also used to promote extreme social reforms, an aspect of avant-garde art.
Avant-garde artists aim to depict a distorted version of reality, and like Yann Black, will often use lines, shapes and ares of solid color to do so.
