You’re gonna LOVE what this woman does to this piece of paper

In this speed painting video, Swedish artist Maria Björnbom Öberg shows us her exceptional skill with drawing. The stationery she’s using are copic markers, Holbein colour pencils and Faber Castell Polychromos to add color to the design, and a white gel pen to add sparkles and highlights. This incredible hand drawn illustration features a beautiful Asian girl with her head encased in a glass bubble. The universe can be seen reflected in the shiny space helmet, representing hopes and dreams and fanciful imaginings. The artist has paid attention to every detail, including individual strands of hair. By sharpening her pencil crayons, she has been able to create fine details that she can further refine with fine-tipped pens. This is an artist who is very talented at mixed media art works that use a variety of different art supplies and metrials.

Öberg’s working on Daler Rowney pastel paper, which is quite toothy and takes layers and layers of pencil work without much fuss, allowing the artist to build a level of depth and colour saturation that is often quite difficult with color pencils. The pale olive color of the paper she’s chosen offers the perfect amount of contrast between the highly saturated foreground and the softer, gentler background. Illustrations such as this one should be sealed with a spray fixative and then have several layers of either brushed or sprayed varnish to protect the layers and layers of pencil, ink and paint.

If you or anyone you know are into realistic pencil drawings, Maria Björnbom Öberg’s art will inspire and amaze. You can see more art videos by Öberg on her Youtube channel BOKKEI and you can buy her art prints online through her Etsy store.

Swedish artist Bokkei shows off her pencil coloring skills in this portrait art work called Astral Affection.
