New Yorker Joe Mangrum has an unusual hobby: he likes to head out to a public space with bags of sand and create mandala designs where every passer-by can watch him at work. Mangrum creates his designs organically, allowing each piece to grow from the centre outwards, without any planning or design in mind. The result is that the shapes and colors that Mangrum uses to create his mandalas reflect his moods, opinions and thoughts as he creates each piece. And when he’s done, 8 or 9 hours later… He sweeps up all his sand and heads home only to return some time later and repeat his meditative, inspirational art process.<\/p>\n
