Marcel Witte is a photorealistic painter from the Netherlands who paints surrealist and photorealistic images of animals. Some of his paintings are simply beautiful portraits, but others have a single human element added to the scene that personifies the animals and gives them character. Witte has this to say about his paintings; “In my artwork, I transfer human eccentricities and characteristics to the world of animals.\u00a0My paintings are more or less visual myths within the literary tradition of the fables.\u00a0By transforming human features to animals, the paintings confront the viewer, but at the same time they create enough distance to put your own human thoughts and deeds into perspective. Maybe you can even smile for them?

In this video, Witte records his artistic process, taking the viewer on a journey from blank canvas to finished art work. Starting with dark shades and steadily adding highlights to create dimension, Witte builds a humorous scene with three elements; a fish, a piece of string and sky-colored background.
