Cinemagraphs is a New York based company compromising of Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg. This artistic duo combine photography and animation to create images that are more than simply a photograph. Each GIF animation brings the scene shown in the image to life through the movement of one or more elements. In some images, it is only one person who moves while the rest of the crowd stays still. In other Cinemagraph GIF animations, it is only one part of a person that moves while the rest of their body is stationary.<\/p>\n

GIF animations are a truly modern form of art, having only emerged in the late 1980s. The Graphic Interchange Format allowed multiple images to be displayed in a stream to create a short animation. The format was initially popular for use in animated logos and emoticons, but has caught the eye of pioneering artists and photographers as a way to combine the art forms of photography and animation. The GIF art works coming out of Cinemagraphs is a perfect example of this marriage which silently portrays a single moment in time in a beautiful, inspirational manner.<\/p>\n
