The German art duo Herakut is made up of two German artists, Jamin and Falk who also go by the names Hera and Akut. The pair combines their talents and their love of both street art and fine art to create beautiful, emotive paintings that bring graffiti art into art galleries in the form of fine art. Herakut’s paintings offer pixie-like characters that are inhuman in appearance but have incredibly human facial expressions. The characters express human emotions such as boredom, mischief, frustration, misery and hope.<\/p>\n

Like many graffiti artists, Hera and Akut often paint their opinions of social themes. These themes can be seen in the interactions between Herakut’s art subjects in the form of vanity, cruelty, control and manipulation. Many of Herakut’s paintings address these more painful, unpleasant aspects of human society, using symbolic imagery to give intangible thoughts and beliefs form. The art group paints a dismayingly dark insight into the psyche of human society, highlighting the negative aspects without addressing the more positive aspects. Perhaps this is because the world that the paintings are presented to is in itself happy, peaceful and positive; a natural contrast to the dark imagery of the paintings. Perhaps in the minds of the artists, their paintings don’t stand in contrast to society but in reflection of it.<\/p>\n
