Naoto Hattori creates bizarre surrealist paintings with an otherworldly feel. Most of his paintings seem to be set in a bygone colonial era, with backgrounds of carefully created and tended gardens; the kind of landscape you’d expect to see on the grounds of an estate house. Hattori brings in both human and animal elements to create unusual subject matter for his paintings. Floating human heads melt into bunny rabbits while obese animals float around in a literal interpretation of the term “balloon animals”.<\/p>\n

Hattori’s surrealist paintings often move away from the serious subject matter that is portrayed in most surrealist art. He brings humor to most pieces by portraying an idea in a funny way. Other paintings have a more serious nature to them, expressing intangible parts of the human soul or personality in a visual form. Although Naoto Hattori’s subject matter may vary from one painting to the next, his consistent style brings the pieces together to create a sense of cohesion when displayed in a gallery.<\/p>\n
