Bonsoir Paris is an art duo who experiment with a variety of art mediums. Turning their hands and creative talents to wood sculptures, the artistic pair created Duramen, a series of wood sculptures that depicts melting picture frames. Each piece is a tactile surrealistic delight. In reality, wood doesn’t melt, it simply burns and turns to ash. This contrast in themes is unusual without being weird, bringing the often bizarre world of surrealist art out of the realm of 2-dimensional paintings and into the realm of 3D sculptural art through the beautiful, high quality sculptures. Bonsoir Paris rebels against traditional gallery fine art, ignoring the space where an art work should go and instead transforming the wooden picture frame into a stand-alone piece of art.

Using different color woods such as oak, fir, wenge, pear and linden, the artists have created color contrast in some pieces, offsetting a light wood grain with a darker one. The effect highlights the grains of each type of wood as well as the pooling, dripping toffee-like shapes created by the wood “melting”.
