Guy Buttery is a South African musician who was born in Kwa-Zulu Natal in 1983. He grew up in a musical family, with a mother who played piano and brothers who played guitar. He says his early experiments with music were influenced by the music that surrounded him, not just that of his family, but of the people in the area where he lived. As his website states, he grew up with ”\u00a0local Zulu tribesmen, playing their brand of music known as Maskanda on finger-picked oil drum guitars. They are South Africa\u2019s blues men, or wandering storytellers, which hollered their song into a young Buttery\u2019s heart. Across the valley, the sounds of tabla and sitar could be heard from one of the many Indian Hindu temples bringing a diversity of colour, spirit and enlightenment into such an enquiring mind.”<\/p>\n
Buttery studied jazz and classical music and now practices a style of acoustic fingerpicking guitar, as seen in this video. His sound is influenced by musical greats such as\u00a0The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.
