James Christensen was born in 1942 and raised in Culver City, California. He was classically trained in art techniques at UCLA and Brigham Young University. After graduating from art school, Christensen went on to teach art for two decades. Over the years he has produced many fine art paintings in oil paint, a medium that allows the artist to paint interesting textures into his work. James Christensen is now retired and lives in Orem, Utah.<\/p>\n

Christensen’s paintings are influenced by fantasy and religion. Each art work has a message hidden somewhere on the canvas, but the painter declines to describe the hidden meanings in his work, preferring to let the viewer decide what the art work means to them. The philosophical nature and excellent quality of Christensen’s work has inspired editors to choose his illustrations for the covers of magazines, as part of fantasy art collections and to illustrate literature. His art work has appeared in the American Illustration Annual and the Japanese America’s Outstanding Illustrators.<\/p>\n

One of James Christensen’s signatures in his paintings is a flying fish, which often appears on a leash. Another signature of this artist is his use of patterns and intricate details, which add to the fantasy nature of his paintings. Even his religious paintings have an aspect of fantasy to them, creating religious surrealist paintings that have sparked much controversy.
