Rowan Atkinson (1955-) is a British actor and comedian who has delighted audiences from around the world with his stand-up comedies, funny skits and humorous movies. Atkinson is best known for his character, Mr Bean, who was invented by a very young Atkinson while he was still at Oxford University. Mr Bean’s personality was designed on the idea of portraying a child in an adult’s body. The result is an hilarious mime character who blunders around the adult world, causing mayhem and generally acting inappropriately.
Atkinson has created dozens of characters during his career. Another notable character by this comedian is Toby the Devil, in which Rowan Atkinson plays the part of Satan welcoming deceased souls to hell. He pokes fun at various stereotypes while transforming the audiences stereotypical idea of the devil.
In this skit, called “Guys After the Game”, Rowan Atkinson performs live on stage, acting out the role of a waiter in an Indian restaurant in England. The Indian waiter somehow manages to keep his cool when a group of drunken Englishmen arrive and proceed to cause havoc. The comedy skit is a parody of a common British pastime – going for a curry after drinking. The magic and humor of this video lies in the way that the only actor on stage is Rowan Atkinson, and while he never speaks for any of the other characters, their existence is made real (if invisible) by Atkinson’s acting talent.
