Critter and Creature Illustrations by Mike Puncekar

Mike Puncekar has an unusual hobby – he takes cheerful, cute characters from video games like Super Mario and from children’s TV series like Pokemon and transforms them to create humorously horrific parodies of the original characters. Puncekar isn’t just a hobbyist artist. He also takes commissions and has created art works for books, comics and private collectors.

Like many artists, Mike Puncekar enjoys doodling, drawing and painting in Moleskine notebooks and has filled many pages with sketches of real people, imagined creatures and fantasy worlds. Puncekar’s subject matter doesn’t seem to be limited to any one realm of imagination. He draws inspiration from the world around him, including the media and popular culture, working this inspiration into his art to create paintings that reflect reality in relation to the artist’s imagination.

Mike Puncekar’s character designs are very eye-catching. Each creature appears to be caught in a moment of mischief, trotting from one moment of mayhem to another or simply standing unashamedly in a pose that seems typical of the creature. Some of the characters appear confused or baffled, as though they can’t understand how they came into being. Speed Painting Bruce Lee with Kung Fu Moves

A fun art video from Youtube artist Phil Hansen. Using his hands instead of paint brushes, Hansen creates a large portrait of kung fu master Bruce Lee. The art style is an apt way to paint Bruce Lee, honoring the actor’s martial arts background while honoring the actor himself. The black paint on the white […]
