Marion Bolognesi is a New York-based artist who divides her time between designing fashion accessories and painting her expressive watercolour portraits. Bolognesi favors watercolor effects like splatters, splashes, blotches and drips of color. She especially enjoys allowing the watercolor paint to drip down the faces of her female figures to create the impression that the woman has been crying colorful tears. The resulting effect is rather curious because colorful art works generally appear cheerful in nature, but when the colorful paints have been used as tears… It raises questions about the nature of joy and the relationship between joy and sadness.
