Agnes Cecile’s World of Watercolor

“Agnes Cecile” is a pseudonym for Italian artist Silvia Pelissero. Born in Rome in 1991, Cecile studied art in high school but has had no other formal training. Looking through her online art gallery, one can see the progression of this artist’s skills as she refines her style. Currently, her watercolor paintings are wild constructs of paint and lines that form an emotionally expressive portrait of the subject. Each portrait painting is unique, and yet they each express the signature style of the artist. The heads of her subjects explode into color, a relationship couple are surrounded by dramatic colors and a tragic girl stares fearfully at the viewer in a scene devoid of color or excitement. Agnes Cecile may be a young artist but she has already mastered the art of eliciting an emotional response from the viewer.

Some of Agnes Cecile’s works reveal symbolic subjects such as butterflies and birds. These symbols of flight, freedom and femininity add an extra emotional element to Cecile’s designs, giving the subject of the portrait another dimension of character to be pondered by the viewer. Cecile uses a number of application techniques to create visual interest in her paintings. Bold brushstrokes combine with splashes and splatters of color to create a wildly imaginative background for the person in the painting. Cecile often allows the paint to drip across the page, creating runs and dribbles of color to accentuate the painting. The result is a highly expressive, emotionally imbued painting that is thrilling to look at.

Artists like Agnes Cecile are exciting to watch – if this is what this artist can produce at such a young age, what marvels will she show us in the years to come? See more watercolor portrait paintings by Agnes Cecile at her online art gallery.
